Miss Ruby is going to be a month on Saturday. I can't believe how fast time is going by! Well, for those who care, I'll share baby girl's birth story :-)
8/31 I had been having contractions all afternoon about 2 minutes apart. They weren't horrible, but they weren't stopping and I was miserable. I told Blaine let's go to the hospital, they'll probably progress. Right before we left, we discovered our sink disposal was leaking. Great. We put a bucket under the sink and left around 9 pm. Not even 5 minutes from our house, we got rear-ended. I cried (don't mess with a pregnant woman who's having contractions!). We had no damage to our car. God was definitely looking out for us. Blaine and the girl decided everything was alright. We got to the hospital and I was hooked up to the monitor. We ended up going to Mercy (which I HIGHLY recommend! Not because I had an amazing preceptor, although that was a big reason why I went, but because it's a great hospital.... that was a runon). I knew all of the nurses who helped me that night, a definite plus! :-) I was hooked up to the monitor and sure enough I was still contracting Q 2 mintues, though I was only dilated to a 1 and 80% effaced. I told them we had just been rear-ended, but prior to that I was contracting Q 2 minutes. They decided to keep me for observation because of the accident. I got fluids and morphine to see if that would help the contractions calm down and/or send me into labor. Come to find out, I had a lot of amniotic fluid and that was why I was contracting so often without cervical change. 4 hours later, I still had no cervical change and my contractions were not easing up. They us home around 2 am (9/1). Blaine and I were exhausted and tried to sleep, but I knew I wasn't going to get much sleep with contractions.
Around 4 am, the big painful contractions started still Q 2 mintues. Ouch!!!! I thought, "These might ease up. I'm not going to go back only to be sent home again!" So I waited.... and they only got stronger. I woke Blaine up because I couldn't take it any longer. (Definitely the worst pain I've ever felt.... breathing techniques, positioning, moving.... NOT!) We went back to the hospital around 6:30 am. I had my same nurses :-) I swore they were gonna think I was crazy, but it was nice knowing I'm not the only one who had come back for the same reason. Sure enough I had dilated to 3.5 and was 90-100%. Finally, some news I had been waiting for! Not even a half hour later I got my epidural and started having some relief. I don't know how anyone does it natural.... no thank you!! I'll take that epidural, please! My preceptor was there and helped me when I got my epidural. Love her! It was too bad day shift had just started, I really wanted her as my nurse.
Around 9:30 my water broke. That was fun! :-) Around 12 pm I was fully dilated. We did some test pushes. Not even 5 minutes later the doctor and nurses were in my room and I knew this was the real deal. At 12:25, our beautiful Ruby June was in my arms :-) I cried. I didn't want to ever let her go. She was so beautiful and tiny (and still is). I had an overwhelming feeling of love the second I saw her. Such a special and sacred experience that I will always cherish.
I couldn't believe how much she looks like I did when I was a baby. Of course, there is some definite Baker in her! She is the most beautiful baby girl I've ever seen. Sorry, but it's true!
Our beautiful girl is such a sweet baby. Being a mom is the best thing. It has been such a learning experience for both Miss Ruby and I. It hasn't been easy by any means, but the best thing I have and ever will experience. I'm so happy to know that my Heavenly Father has entrusted me with His sweet daughter that is sealed to Blaine and I forever. She makes us so happy. We are always laughing at her cute little grunts and coos. It breaks my heart when she cries. She has us wrapped around her tiny finger! I can honestly say, despite being hormonal, this is the happiest we've ever been. Ruby June, you have stolen our hearts forever! We love you so much and can't wait to watch you grow up into an amazing young lady!
